# Routings

> The ordered operations and work centers a part flows through to get made.

A **routing** defines the ordered operations required to make a part and the work center assigned to each operation. A job needs a routing for scheduling, run-time estimation, and costing.

## Per-revision routings

A routing is the list of operations on an item's make method, and each make method version has its own, so a design change doesn't rewrite history. Jobs built against an older version keep the routing they were released with.

NOTE

A job with no operations has nothing to schedule or cost.
