# Reordering policy

> How each part decides when and how much to replenish: the policy and the numbers that drive planning.

Each part has a **reordering policy**, set per location on the item's **Planning** tab, that determines when and how much to replenish. Its **replenishment system** determines whether the result is a purchase order or a job.

## Policies

| Policy | Triggers when | Orders |
| - | - | - |
| Manual Reorder | never automatically | nothing: you order by hand |
| Demand-Based Reorder | demand appears in an accumulation window | enough to cover that window's demand (plus any safety stock), grouped by the accumulation period |
| Fixed Reorder Quantity | on-hand falls to the reorder point | a fixed reorder quantity |
| Maximum Quantity | on-hand falls to the reorder point | enough to reach the maximum inventory quantity |

</details>

<details>
  <summary>**Responsible Employee**</summary>

  Who this item's planning actions are assigned to at this location. Empty inherits the item group, location or company owner. See [planning ownership](/docs/reference/planning.md#planning-ownership). *(applies to: all)*
</details>

NOTE

Policies are set per part, and planning can run per location — so the same part can use demand-based
reorder at one site and simple min/max at another.
