# Receipts

> Goods coming in: receiving against a purchase order and posting to inventory.

A **receipt** records incoming goods from a purchase order, a purchase invoice, an inbound transfer, a sales return order, or a repair order. Posting the receipt adds the delivery to stock on hand.

Each receipt line references the purchase-order line it fulfills. Posting increases inventory and the order line's received quantity. Its journal debits inventory—or work-in-process for outside processing—and credits a goods-received-not-invoiced accrual that the supplier invoice later clears.

## Fields

FieldType

<details>
  <summary>**Source document**`reference`</summary>

  The purchase order, purchase invoice, inbound transfer, sales return order, or repair order being received.
</details>

<details>
  <summary>**Received quantity**`number`</summary>

  Units on this receipt, per line. A new receipt fills in the quantity still to receive; change it to what actually arrived. A line nothing arrived for can stay at 0.
</details>

<details>
  <summary>**Conversion factor**`number`</summary>

  Converts the supplier's purchase unit to the stock unit.
</details>

<details>
  <summary>**Location**`reference`</summary>

  Where the goods land.
</details>

## Status

<details>
  <summary>**Draft**</summary>

  Being prepared; nothing posted.
</details>

<details>
  <summary>**Pending**</summary>

  Queued to post.
</details>

<details open>
  <summary>**Posted**</summary>

  Inventory increased and the order advanced.
</details>

<details>
  <summary>**Voided**</summary>

  Reversed after posting.
</details>

NOTE

Receive an item flagged for inspection and its units land **On Hold**, with an inbound inspection opened at *Pending* — they don't become available stock until the inspection clears.

## Fixed-asset lines

A receipt that includes fixed assets lists them as **fixed-asset lines**. Mark each one **received** and enter its serial number if it has one. A receipt can post when only fixed-asset lines are marked received.

## Rental returns

Units come back from a rental on the [rental agreement](/docs/reference/rental-agreements.md), not on a receipt. **Return** on a unit that is on rent opens a **Return {unit}** dialog with **Return Date**, **Meter Reading**, **Return Notes** and a **Take out of service** switch (with an **Out of Service Reason**); a unit treated as a sale also asks **Return To**: the rental fleet or inventory.
