# Quotes

> A priced offer to a customer — the front of the sales flow.

A **quote** is a time-limited, priced offer to a customer. Acceptance converts it into a sales order; expiration closes it without creating an order.

Quote lines support quantity breaks, and the selected price carries into the order. Quotes are optional because sales orders can be created directly. When a quote is used, it and the resulting order share an opportunity rather than a direct link.

## Fields

FieldType

<details>
  <summary>**Customer**`reference`</summary>

  Who the offer is for.
</details>

<details>
  <summary>**Lines**`list`</summary>

  The items quoted, each with quantity-break pricing.
</details>

<details>
  <summary>**Revision**`number`</summary>

  Bumped as the quote is reworked, so history isn't overwritten.
</details>

<details>
  <summary>**Expiration**`date`</summary>

  When the offer lapses.
</details>

<details>
  <summary>**Status**`enum`</summary>

  Where the quote is in its lifecycle (below).
</details>

## Status lifecycle

<details>
  <summary>**Draft**</summary>

  Being prepared; pricing still in progress.
</details>

<details open>
  <summary>**Sent**</summary>

  Finalized and issued to the customer, the state that unlocks digital acceptance.
</details>

<details>
  <summary>**Ordered**</summary>

  Converted into a sales order.
</details>

<details>
  <summary>**Partial**</summary>

  Some lines converted to an order, others not.
</details>

<details>
  <summary>**Lost**</summary>

  The customer declined.
</details>

<details>
  <summary>**Cancelled**</summary>

  Withdrawn before a decision.
</details>

<details>
  <summary>**Expired**</summary>

  Lapsed past its expiration date.
</details>

Each line tracks its own progress too: **Not Started**, **In Progress**, **Complete**, or **No Quote** for a line you decline to bid. Finalizing a quote moves it to **Sent** and marks its lines **Complete**, leaving any **No Quote** line as it is.

## Digital quotes

A **Sent** quote can be shared with the customer over a private link, no login — the URL is in the quote's share dialog. The page shows the quote lines with images, the quantity-break pricing, the totals (subtotal, discount, tax, shipping), the shipping method and payment term, and any external notes. Internal notes are stripped before anything renders, so the customer never sees your working comments.

From that page the customer **accepts** — entering their name and email, picking the quantity break per line, and optionally attaching a purchase-order PDF — and the quote converts straight to a sales order, stamping who accepted it. Or they **reject**, again with a name and email, and the quote moves to **Lost**.

NOTE

**The link is the only credential**

There is no account or password behind the link — whoever holds the URL can open the quote. Send it to the right person and don't post it anywhere public. Both actions are gated on status: only a **Sent** quote can be answered, and once the `expirationDate` passes the page shows an expired state and the buttons are gone.

A companion [customer portal](/docs/reference/customer-portal.md) then shows the buyer live order and job status as the work proceeds.

## Becoming an order

Converting a quote, internally or by the customer accepting, builds a sales order from its lines at the negotiated price. It opens at **To Ship and Invoice** when a line ships physical goods, or **To Invoice** for a service-only order with nothing to ship. The quote itself flips to **Ordered**, or **Partial** if only some lines converted.

NOTE

There's no path from a quote straight to a production job. A job is raised from a *sales order* line, so the sequence is always quote → order → job.
