# Purchase orders

> A commitment to a supplier: what to receive, and what you'll be billed for.

A **purchase order** commits the company to buy from a supplier. It can be created directly or from a supplier quote. Receipts and supplier invoices reconcile against its lines.

Each purchase-order line tracks received and invoiced quantities independently. The line closes only after both quantities are satisfied, allowing receiving and billing to advance separately.
