Your company's subscription decides which plan you are on and which features are available. The company **owner** manages it on the **Billing** page; everyone else sees its effects as locked features and upgrade messages. ## Who can see billing | Person | What they see | | - | - | | The company owner | **Settings → Billing** (in the **Company** group) and **Manage Subscription** in the avatar menu. Both open the same page. | | Everyone else | No billing page. Plan-gated features show an upgrade message instead (see [Locked features](#locked-features)). Ask your owner about the plan. | Changing anything on the page (opening the portal, transferring ownership) also needs the **Update** permission on **Settings**. ## The Billing page The page has two cards. ### Manage Subscription | Field | Shows | | - | - | | **Plan** | The name of your current plan, or **No active plan** | | **Status** | **Active**, **Inactive**, **Cancelled** or **Unknown** | | **Users** | Users counted against the plan, as used / limit | | **Tasks** | Tasks used / limit | | **AI Tokens** | AI tokens used / limit | A limit shown as **∞** means the plan sets no limit for it. Select **Manage Subscription** to open the subscription portal. There you update the payment method, see and download invoices, and change or cancel the subscription. If the portal cannot be opened, the page shows "Failed to access billing portal"; try again a little later. ### Manage Ownership The owner can hand the company over to another employee, for example when they leave. The new owner gets full access to billing and administrative settings. Under **Manage Ownership**, open **New Owner** and pick the person. Only people who are employees of the company are listed. Select **Transfer Ownership**. The button stays disabled while you are still the selected person. The page confirms "Company ownership has been transferred successfully". From now on the Billing page belongs to the new owner, and you no longer see it. If no one else is listed, the card says "No other employees found. Add employees to enable ownership transfer." Invite the person first (see [permissions](https://docs.alforse.com/docs/reference/permissions.md#inviting-people)). HEADS UP **You cannot take it back yourself** After the transfer only the new owner can transfer ownership again. Make sure you pick the right person. ## Choosing a plan A new company picks its plan as the last step of [getting started](https://docs.alforse.com/docs/reference/onboarding.md). The **Select a plan** page shows a card per plan: * the price per user and month (**/month/user**), or **Contact us** for a custom plan; * what the plan includes; * **Start N Day Free Trial** (or **Start Now** when there is no trial) for a plan you can start yourself. It takes you to the checkout to enter payment details. The page notes that you are not charged during the trial and can switch or cancel anytime; * **Talk to Sales** for plans that are arranged with Alforse. It opens the Alforse sales page. When the checkout completes, you return to Alforse and the company is ready to use. ### When there is no active subscription Until your company has an active subscription, every sign-in takes you back to the **Select a plan** page. The same happens later if the subscription is cancelled, or if it is paused or suspended: the app sends users to the plan step until the subscription is active again. A payment that is past due does not lock you out straight away; the subscription stays in force during the payment grace period. ## Locked features Some features belong to higher plans. On a plan that does not include them, Alforse shows them but does not let you use them: | Where | What you see | | - | - | | Pages such as **API Keys**, **Webhooks**, **Audit Logs** and **Workflows** | The page is blurred, with a card naming the feature, a one-line description, and an **Upgrade to Business** button that opens the Billing page. | | Security settings, **Two-Factor Authentication** | A dialog describing the feature, with the same upgrade button. | | **Settings → Integrations** | Integration cards show an **Upgrade** button with a lock instead of the install button. | | AI assistants over MCP | "The MCP server is available on the Business plan. Upgrade to connect an agent to Alforse." (see [Connect an AI assistant](https://docs.alforse.com/docs/building/mcp.md)) | | API calls with an API key | Every call returns `403` (see [API keys](https://docs.alforse.com/docs/building/api-keys.md#plan)). | Some plan features are hidden rather than locked: on other plans, **Backups** is missing from **Settings** (see [backups](https://docs.alforse.com/docs/platform/backups.md)) and the [AI assistant](https://docs.alforse.com/docs/reference/agent.md) button is not shown. Once the plan is upgraded, the features unlock without any change on your side. ## Troubleshooting | Symptom | Cause | Fix | | - | - | - | | There is no **Billing** entry in Settings | Only the company owner sees it. | Ask the owner, or have ownership transferred to you. | | **Upgrade to Business** opens an empty Billing page | You are not the owner, so the subscription cards are hidden. | Ask the owner to upgrade. | | Every sign-in lands on **Select a plan** | The company has no active subscription: none was started, or it was cancelled, paused or suspended. | Start a plan, or ask the owner to fix the subscription in the portal. Contact Alforse if you believe it should be active. | | "Failed to access billing portal" | The portal session could not be created. | Try again later; contact Alforse support if it persists. | | "Failed to transfer ownership" | The change was not saved. | Try again; check you still have the **Update** permission on **Settings**. | | **Plan** shows **No active plan** | No subscription is linked to the company. | Choose a plan; contact Alforse if your plan was arranged with sales. | ## Related **Getting started** The setup wizard that ends with the plan step.
