# In-app assistant

> A read-only chat assistant inside the ERP that answers questions about how Alforse works from the product documentation and points you to the right page.

The in-app assistant answers questions about using Alforse. Open it with the **Question** button in the top bar or press <kbd>⌘L</kbd>. It searches the product documentation and returns an answer with links to relevant pages.

The assistant is **read-only and documentation-only**. It explains features and workflows and can navigate to pages, but it cannot read live company data or make changes. For data-specific questions, it can open the relevant page for you to inspect.

HEADS UP

**It never writes, and it never reads your records**

The assistant does not create, edit, or delete records. It cannot access customers, orders, parts, quantities, or statuses. If asked to make a change, it explains how to perform the action in the interface.

This is distinct from the [Slack assistant](/docs/integrations/assistant.md), which is a separate integration that surfaces Alforse in Slack. The in-app assistant lives only inside the ERP.

## What it can do

The assistant can:

* **Answer from the docs.** It searches the same content that powers this documentation site and reads whole pages to answer your question, citing the page it used as a link.
* **Take you to a page.** Ask for "the jobs page" or "settings" and it can navigate you straight there. For a record page it needs a specific id, which it can only use if it found one in the docs. It never invents ids.
* **Offer links, buttons, and choices.** It can show a clickable link, a one-click suggested follow-up, or a short set of options to pick from when your question is ambiguous.

It cannot run reports, update fields, or post documents.

## Where it appears

The assistant is available throughout the ERP. The **Question** button and <kbd>⌘L</kbd> toggle a chat panel on the right. The assistant receives the current page or record as context, so questions such as "how do I edit this?" apply to the active screen.

The button and panel appear only when the company's plan includes the assistant.

## Threads and messages

Each conversation is a **thread** visible only to you within your company. Use panel history to switch threads, start a new one, or delete a thread. Reopened threads display their 200 most recent messages.

Alforse stores each exchange as messages containing visible text and records of documentation lookups. It assigns a short title when the thread has a clear topic. You can rate an answer with the thumbs-up or thumbs-down buttons.

NOTE

**It only remembers the recent turn**

Before each reply, Alforse limits the conversation context to a size budget of recent messages. Start a new thread when changing topics.

## Limits and availability

The assistant is a paid feature.

* **Plan.** It is available on the Business and Partner plans.
* **Beta.** Answers can be incomplete or incorrect. Use the linked documentation as the source of truth.
